Originally built in 1971, the Keene Memorial Library in Fremont, Nebraska, underwent a $10 million renovation and expansion, which includes:
- Private Study Areas for Adults
- Genealogy Room
- Teen Space
- Makerspace Area
- Computer Lab
- Garage/Book Drop
- Children’s Activity Area
- Additional Program Space
- Additional Meeting Space
- Catering Kitchenette
- Friends Coffee Nook
- Adult Fireplace Area
The first floor expansion adds 7,000 SF, while the second floor adds 3,653 SF, essentially doubling the library’s footprint to 22,000 SF. The interior renovation includes new finishes throughout with updates to the existing entryways, elevators, millwork, workspaces, and bathrooms, all of which will improve accessibility and safety. A new Multipurpose Community Room and additional meeting space with state-of-the-art technology will expand opportunities for entertainment and educational events throughout the library.
The expansion creates a seamless connection to the existing building and features a stunning, new 2-story glass atrium, and improved natural lighting throughout. New exterior features include outdoor seating and gathering areas, additional parking, and a zero-grade entrance and drive-thru drop-off zone for easy access.
